FOR THE 2011 TRIP PLEASE VISIT THE NEW WEBSITE: http://ladakh2011.wordpress.com/ A magical trip in a stunning landscape!

From Delhi we will first visit the beautiful Srinagar in Kashmir, where we will stay in house boats on the Dal Lake. We will explore the historic centre of the town, including the oldest mosque and the stunning Shalimar Gardens. We will spend time in the surrounding countryside, see the swimming gardens and morning vegetable market on the lake and some of the beautiful arts and crafts made in the area. For two days we will do some trecking in the lower foothills of the Himalayas.

Then the journey continues through wide open spaces, unearthly looking rock formations and past snow-clad peaks until we reach Leh, the capital of Ladakh.

There we can meet a Buddhist culture that is preserved in it’s ancient ways like nowhere else in the world. We will visit monasteries, can take part in ceremonies and meet the Ladakhis who welcome for-eigners with a bis smile and friendly ‘jullee!’ Buddhists and Moslems have lived here side by side in harmony for many centuries. Even the largest mosque has elements of Tibetan architec-ture. We will visit the Royal Palace and the ancient part of the town. - After a few days to acclimatize to the height we then travel over the highest motorable pass in the world (Khardung-La Pass) to enter the Nubra Valley, ‘Valley of Flowers’ that has only recently been opened up to visitors; it forms a part of the ancient silk route.
